‘Tis the season, or so they say… The holidays can be a fun and exciting time for you and your pets but it can also be scary! When you’re making holidays plans, decorating and cooking, keep these tips in mind to keep your pets safe.
Traveling
If you are gone for a long day visiting friends and family, consider having someone stop in to look in on your pet and take them out for a quick potty break. If you are traveling away and can’t take your pet’s with you, consider boarding them or having a pet sitter take care of them. If you plan on taking them with you please look into airline regulations if you are flying (most require a current rabies vaccine certificate to accompany the pet and a health exam within 10 days of travel) and take copies of current vet records if you are driving.
Decorations
Decorations can be fun to look at but can also fun to eat and play with. Make sure your decorations are pet safe! If your pet can’t be trusted to stay away from the tree or lighted candles, place a barrier around the area so they are not harmed. Even though the ribbon on gifts looks like a fun toy, if ingested it can cause a blockage in the most curious of cats.
Foods
There is nothing better than the great foods and desserts that go along with holiday traditions. Please make sure to keep foods out of the reach of your pets – the last thing you need is a late night trip the emergency animal clinic!
